Hilton End at Utilita Bowl: choosing a Test seat

The Hilton End looks southwest along the pitch towards the Pavilion. Choose it for the bowling line, with a plan for afternoon sunshine in the open seating.

Best for: An end-on outlook from the hotel side and a visit built around an on-site stay.

The Pavilion beyond the far wicket

At the Hilton End, the hotel is behind you and the Pavilion frames the far end of the pitch. This northeastern position is the reverse of the Pavilion view: a bowler working from the hotel end delivers away from you, while the next over comes towards you from the southwest.

That alignment is useful for watching the field narrow around a batter facing a new ball. You can follow the slip cordon and see how the bowler changes the angle of approach. Move towards either side of the end on the seating plan and the view becomes more diagonal, with the wicket less directly in front.

Compare the exact block with the straight line joining the two wickets before booking. Hilton End names the part of the stadium, not a hotel room or a single central viewpoint. An ordinary seat gives you the match among the crowd; a room or hospitality product needs its own description of the watching position.

An open end facing the afternoon light

Hilton End seats face broadly southwest. In the morning session, light comes from the eastern side. Through the afternoon the sun moves towards the direction you are watching, and after tea it remains towards the western side of that outlook. This is an important comparison with the northeast-facing Pavilion opposite.

Most seating at this end is open. The hotel is a landmark behind the seats, so do not choose this position on the assumption that its building provides overhead shelter. Pack a brimmed hat and sunglasses for the afternoon, and keep a light waterproof accessible beneath your seat.

If avoiding direct sunshine is more important than watching straight down the pitch, compare a roofed row in either main side stand. You will change the cricket angle as well as the shelter. For an end-on preference, the Pavilion offers the opposite direction of view and a different relationship to the afternoon sun.

Cricket beneath the hotel

The hotel backdrop makes this end distinctive, but the outdoor seating remains part of the wider match crowd. Choose it for watching successive overs along the pitch and sharing that angle with companions. Seats spread around the curve can leave a group with noticeably different views, so prioritise being together when selecting a party booking.

An on-site stay can make the Hilton End appealing for a multi-day visit. Settle any junior admission and alcohol-free requirement with the ticket team: the Ashes allocation is TBC. Hotel accommodation, restaurant tables and spectator seats each have separate booking arrangements.

Hotel-side breaks and facilities

The Boundary Bar is at the Hilton End, giving you a named meeting place for a break on this side. Accessible toilets are also located at this end. The level route around the berm connects the hotel side with both main stands, although reaching some lower seating positions involves steps.

Ask the ticket team about the complete approach to your allocated place if you need level access. A wheelchair viewing position at the rear of the lower tier is a different arrangement from an ordinary row reached by stairs. Discuss the companion’s seat at the same time so both of you can follow the play together.

BEEFY’S restaurant is within the Hilton and uses the hotel entrance. A meal booking can be part of an on-site visit, but check its matchday arrangements before planning lunch around leaving your cricket seat. For a hotel room, establish the pitch view, admission and any re-entry terms as part of the package you are buying.

Booking the hotel end for July

The Ashes Test takes place on 21–25 July 2027.Compare the official seat offer with any hotel package by separating the cricket seat, accommodation and meals; the same landmark can appear in several different products.

See the Utilita Bowl Test guide for the current ticket timetable. If your priority is a central end-on view, retain that requirement when discussing alternatives with the ticket office. A nearby available block may still give a good outlook, but its angle across the pitch will be different.
