The men’s Ashes reaches Hampshire for the first time in July 2027. Make a south-coast break of it: a long day around the open bowl, dinner beside Southampton’s waterfront and another morning of England against Australia.
England and Australia play the fourth men’s Ashes Test here from Wednesday 21 to Sunday 25 July 2027, starting at 11:00. By this point the series has visited Trent Bridge, Lord’s and Edgbaston; the Oval follows. Wednesday brings the opening toss, while the weekend falls on Days 4 and 5. Build your visit around the day you want to watch and the possibility of an early finish.
The Rose Bowl, Ageas Bowl and Utilita Bowl are the same ground at West End, outside central Southampton. The Ageas name arrived in 2012; Utilita became the naming partner in January 2024. Use the Botley Road address when arranging transport, especially if an older hotel listing or cricket photograph still uses one of the earlier names.
Test cricket first arrived in 2011 with England against Sri Lanka. In 2020 the ground helped bring international cricket back behind closed doors, hosting the first West Indies Test and two Pakistan Tests in a bio-secure setting. The on-site hotel remains a distinctive part of the view across the playing area.
The 2021 World Test Championship final gave the ground another place in cricket history. New Zealand beat India by eight wickets, with the contest reaching its reserve day. The 2027 visit adds a new chapter: Hampshire’s first men’s Ashes Test. Take a moment before the opening spell to look from the Pavilion towards the hotel and picture those very different occasions.
Choose Wednesday for the opening toss and first use of the surface. Thursday lets you follow the first innings, and Friday starts a Hampshire weekend. Two neighbouring days let you watch the same contest develop without repeating the whole outward journey.
Saturday is Day 4, so it can bring a tense chase or a match already decided. Sunday carries the greatest chance of little cricket or none. A fifth-day visit works best with flexible travel and something else you would enjoy nearby. Put a Winchester or SeaCity outing in your plan before booking a room whose cost depends on seeing every session.

Eligible adult Hampshire members received the earliest windows, starting with longer-standing members on 8 September, then two-year members on 11 September and new 2027 members on 18 September. Priority Club followed on 21 September and is now sold out. A membership is a separate purchase, so ask about remaining ticket access before buying one for this Test.
Compare the displayed price band, your day and the complete party total in the club’s buying system before paying. If a ballot offer covers a different band from your first choice, decide whether that view and cost still suit the trip. Keep the confirmation with your hotel and transport details.
The Rod Bransgrove Pavilion is at the southwest end, with the Hilton hotel opposite towards the northeast. Shane Warne stands on the northwestern side and Colin Ingleby-Mackenzie on the southeastern side. An end-on position helps you follow a bowler’s line; a side-on position makes the batter’s footwork and the length of a delivery easier to pick out.
Most seats are uncovered. Treat a roof above part of a stand as a reason to ask about a particular row, especially if avoiding direct sun or rain is essential. A ticket category alone does not tell you how much shelter reaches your place. The plan and cards below help you compare the main areas before opening Hampshire’s seat map.
July sunlight moves across the open bowl through a long Test day. Shade changes with the row, neighbouring structures and the time of play; keep a hat and a light waterproof with you even after choosing a sheltered position. For a multi-day booking, consider whether you want the same view throughout or a different angle on the second morning.
A general guide for a sunny summer day; front rows catch more sun. Approximate NE–SW pitch axis.

11:00 — Scheduled first ball
Intervals — Follow the day’s announcements for lunch and tea
After stumps — Allow time for the exit and onward transfer
Pack sun protection, a water bottle and a warm layer within reach of your seat. The open bowl leaves you outdoors for hours; returning to a Southampton hotel for a forgotten item would interrupt the cricket.
Outside alcohol is prohibited at international matches. The Arlott Atrium is open to all ticket holders, while some Pavilion areas have member or hospitality restrictions. Use the public spaces appropriate to your ticket when meeting friends, and agree an exact stand or entrance as your meeting point.
Before the first over, find the facilities nearest your row. Agree where children should wait if the group separates and who holds each ticket. For consecutive days, adjust your packing and station transfer after the first visit.
Hedge End is the closest railway station, less than two miles away and about a thirty-five-minute walk by the club’s estimate. Southampton Airport Parkway is around three and a half miles away, on the London Waterloo–Weymouth main line. Choose between them by the complete journey, including the transfer to Botley Road.
Bluestar 14 connects Southampton with Hedge End through Bitterne and West End. Check the service for the day you are attending, including the last useful return. Keep the stop name and direction with your ticket so that everyone in the group can find the same route after the crowd leaves the ground.
The club has operated rail shuttles from both stations for recent internationals. Ashes shuttle or park-and-ride times and fares are TBC. For now, compare the station walk with a prearranged taxi and leave room in the plan for the eventual event travel service. The final transfer deserves its own time allowance before the 11:00 start.
For driving, the venue is reached from M27 junction 7. On-site and nearby event parking must be booked for the correct match day; follow the address and entrance on the pass. Close-to-gate spaces and Park & Walk involve different distances and surfaces. Ask about those differences before paying if hills or grass would make the approach difficult.

Rail to Hedge End
Check station facilities and plan the walk or event transfer to Botley Road.
Southampton city centre gives the trip an evening life beyond the stadium, with Oxford Street and Ocean Village among the options for dinner. Hedge End or Eastleigh can suit a quieter base near the approach to the ground. Winchester makes a good choice if the cathedral city is part of the holiday; allow for the separate ground transfer each morning.
The Hilton Southampton–Utilita Bowl is on the ground itself. Compare the exact room type and any matchday package before assuming a booking includes a pitch view or admission. Holiday Inn Express Southampton–M27, J7 is another named option in the ground’s part of Southampton. For either, check the parking and cancellation terms attached to the room you select.

For weekend tickets, decide how you would use the last night if the Test finishes on Saturday. A Winchester or Southampton outing can make the extra night worthwhile. For weekday cricket, arriving the previous evening gives you time to settle in.
Oxford Street is a useful starting point for a Southampton evening, with independent places to eat and drink in the Maritime Quarter. Book dinner with enough space after stumps to leave the ground and reach the city. If the match runs late, a flexible reservation is much more comfortable than watching the final overs with one eye on the clock.
Ocean Village offers a marina setting for a waterfront meal after hours in your seat. Agree a meeting place before leaving the Bowl, particularly when friends are travelling separately by car and public transport.
In Winchester, The Square puts cafés and restaurants close to the cathedral. It works especially well if your room is already in the city and you want to keep the evening local. Save a longer exploration for a spare morning, then finish the cricket day with dinner and a straightforward route back to bed.
Winchester Cathedral makes a substantial non-match outing. Its Kings & Scribes exhibition includes the twelfth-century Winchester Bible and the historic Morley Library. Put the cathedral at the centre of the day, leaving time for a meal nearby. Arrange the visit around its opening and service calendar, with enough time between your trains to enjoy it.
For outdoor time, the New Forest National Park’s Ashurst Stroll starts at Ashurst railway station. The roughly 2.8-mile circular route passes open lawns and woodland, with a published estimate of one to two hours. Choose footwear for the paths and keep your distance from grazing animals. This is a separate excursion from the ground, so plan its rail journey independently.
SeaCity Museum’s Titanic exhibition follows the disaster’s impact on Southampton through objects and personal accounts. It gives a rainy spare day an indoor focus after time in the open stands. Choose the museum visit before fitting in cafés or other city stops.
Compare Hampshire’s international hospitality by the part of the ground you want to experience. The club describes options in the Shane Warne Suite, Pavilion Roof Terrace, private boxes, Hampshire Suite and BEEFY’S restaurant. Ask for the Ashes day’s exact package, including where you will sit for the cricket and which indoor space is available between sessions.
Before collecting group payments, settle junior admission, dietary needs and access to the room. Ask whether parking is included and what happens if the Test finishes early. Keep the package terms with your match booking.
