Four days of women’s Ashes cricket bring England and Australia to Headingley in June 2027. Make a Leeds weekend of it: choose your view, settle into the rhythm of a Test and leave time for the city beyond the boundary.
Headingley at a glance
| Test | Dates | First ball / gates |
|---|---|---|
| England women v Australia | 24–27 June 2027 | 11:00 / TBC |
England Women face Australia from Thursday 24 to Sunday 27 June 2027, starting at 11:00. This is the first women’s Ashes Test in Leeds since 2001 and the sole Test in that summer’s women’s series. Four scheduled days make this a compact red-ball trip, with the last two falling at the weekend. Pick a day to introduce someone to Test cricket, or stay long enough to watch the balance shift between innings.

For the opening morning, give yourself time to take in the ground before finding your row. Look from the Howard Stand towards Kirkstall Lane, then across to the Western Terrace: the different viewing angles will make more sense when the field spreads out. Following a single batter or a bowler’s spell gives a first-time visitor something clear to watch while the wider contest develops.
Headingley’s men’s Ashes history includes England’s extraordinary 1981 recovery, powered by Ian Botham’s unbeaten 149 and Bob Willis’s eight wickets. In 2019, Ben Stokes finished on 135 not out as England won with their last pair together. These are wonderful stories to share on the way in; the women’s Test gives a new generation its own Headingley occasion.
| Day | What you’re likely to see | Chance match is already over | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 · Thu 24 June | The toss and opening innings | None before play begins | The full opening occasion |
| Day 2 · Fri 25 June | Follow the developing contest | Possible, though early | An overnight stay into Saturday |
| Day 3 · Sat 26 June | A clearer match situation | Possible | Weekend visitors and families |
| Day 4 · Sun 27 June | Final scheduled day; possible finish | Higher than on earlier days | Flexible visitors with a Leeds alternative |
Thursday brings the toss and first session, with the whole match ahead. Friday suits a two-day stay that continues into Saturday. If work limits you to the weekend, Day 3 is the earlier choice; by Sunday, the final scheduled day, the contest could be approaching a finish or already complete. Decide how much that uncertainty matters before choosing an inflexible return train.
For a family, the best day also depends on the journey home. A Saturday visit can leave Sunday free for a slow breakfast and a Leeds attraction. Two consecutive tickets let you pick up a partnership where you left it, although each day still needs its own admission. Keep a simple alternative outing ready for interruptions or an early result.

Yorkshire advertised a starting Women’s Ashes price of £20 per day during its International Priority window, which ended on 1 October 2026. The £35 priority pass was an additional purchase. Ballot prices are higher, with another increase planned for general sale; the current day-by-day tariff and under-16 terms are TBC. Free junior entry has not been confirmed for this Test.
Final ballot purchase window until 13 October; general sale 14 October 2026 at 10:00. Successful applicants should use the instructions and deadline in their email. Existing members should sign into their linked Yorkshire account and ask which international entitlement applies before buying any extra product.
Compare the complete family basket once your sale opens: adult seats, junior admission, any fees and the journey from Leeds. A modest ticket bill can still support an expensive weekend if the room and train are left until last. Check adjacent seats before paying, save the booking confirmation and share the correct day’s ticket with each adult in your group.
For a bowling-line view, compare the Trueman Enclosure at the Kirkstall Lane end with the Howard Stand opposite. Howard’s higher seats give a broader picture of the field; Yorkshire cautions that its upper tier may trouble visitors with vertigo. A lower position can be the more comfortable choice when watching three sessions matters more than elevation.
The Western Terrace looks across the square. Its A and B Fanzone blocks welcome fancy dress; the Popular and 1863 Enclosures prohibit it. Follow the ticket’s age restrictions and choose the section for your group. For alcohol-free seating, start with Block R below the North East scoreboard. The area behind the East Stand hosts family activities on major matchdays.
Use the sun guide below alongside the seat map. The open Western Terrace catches morning light; the northern and eastern sides can face afternoon sunshine. Covered Howard rows offer a useful starting point for shade. An uncovered June seat needs a hat and rain layer even when the morning looks comfortable, and the exact row matters as much as the stand name.

Build a Headingley bag around the seat you have bought. An open North East or Western Terrace position calls for sun protection, a light waterproof and an extra layer when the temperature drops. Keep food and essential items reachable without blocking the aisle; between overs is a considerate moment to move past other spectators.
The ground’s rules prohibit outside alcohol for internationals, along with glass, cans and metal cutlery. Soft drinks or water may be brought in sealed plastic containers up to the stated two-litre limit. Bring a bottle for the refill points and check the latest match guide before packing any specialist equipment or unusually large item.
Before the first ball, agree a meeting place with the people sharing your Leeds trip. The Howard and Kirkstall Lane ends are useful landmarks, but give children an exact stand and a steward to approach if separated. Split a first Test visit into manageable spells, with drinks and a stretch of the legs between passages of play.

Burley Park and Headingley are both on the Harrogate railway line from Leeds. Yorkshire recommends Burley Park for passengers arriving from the city and gives an eleven-minute walk to the ground. Headingley station approaches the Kirkstall Lane side, with an uphill stretch. Allow around fifteen minutes there, then add time for the gate queue and reaching your actual stand.
Buses 19, 19A and 56 connect the city centre with the stadium area. Use the journey planner for the stop closest to your hotel and ticketed entrance. Headingley is outside the central station district: choose the local train or bus if a long walk would use up the energy you want for the cricket.
Parking allocations for the 2027 Test are TBC. The club’s 2026 arrangements use Car Park K for advance non-Blue-Badge bookings, Car Park J for limited Blue Badge places, and Beckett Park for major-match Park and Stride. Book the actual Test product when available and follow its car-park address; surrounding residential streets are a poor backup.
Keep the return journey in mind as you enter. Burley Park may suit your outward gate, while dinner on Otley Road could change where you start the trip back. Save the final connection into Leeds and leave room for a crowded exit. A close match is easier to enjoy when the whole group has already agreed its departure plan.
Compare Leeds spaces and check the parking arrangements for your fixture.
Find a parking space →Headingley suits a trip centred on the Test and a local evening afterwards. Leeds city centre gives you the main railway station, more options for eating out and an easy base for the Royal Armouries. Decide which part of the visit should be simplest, then compare the whole door-to-gate journey instead of choosing solely from a hotel’s Leeds address.
The on-site Headingley Stadium Hotel, also known as Headingley Lodge, is a distinctive cricket setting. Quebecs gives you a city-centre alternative. For either, ask about the actual room, access and check-in arrangements during the Test. A hotel reservation needs its own terms alongside your match tickets, particularly when the stay includes the final scheduled day.

For Saturday and Sunday cricket, compare a Friday arrival with travelling on Saturday morning. Leaving luggage at an agreed hotel location can make the first session easier. If children are coming, give breakfast, the ground journey and an evening meal proper space in the plan; a comfortable second day starts with an unhurried first evening.
Otley Road is the natural starting point for an evening after the cricket. The Original Oak gives your group a specific Headingley meeting place. Agree whether you are eating locally before heading out, especially if some friends are staying in the city and others want an early night before another Test day.
For a city-centre evening, Greek Street offers bars and restaurants, including The Alchemist. Book a meal at a time that allows for the exit from Headingley and the journey back. If you want to watch every ball, a later reservation is easier to enjoy than checking the clock through the final overs.
A family visit can work best with dinner close to the hotel and a short recap of the day’s cricket. Let everyone pick a moment to follow tomorrow: a batter nearing a milestone, a bowler finding movement or a developing partnership. The Test becomes a shared story across the whole Leeds weekend.
The Royal Armouries at Leeds Dock offers free museum entry and displays of arms and armour. It recommends allowing two to three hours. This works well as a substantial indoor outing before heading home, or as a separate day for someone travelling with a cricket fan. Choose a few galleries to enjoy together and leave time for a break.
Kirkstall Abbey gives you a contrasting outing among the abbey ruins and surrounding grounds. The council now runs it on a Give What You Can basis. Put this into a Headingley stay when you want an outdoor change of scene, with suitable footwear and enough time to explore without rushing towards a train.
Keep attraction opening times alongside the cricket dates when planning a longer visit. A Monday after the Test needs its own itinerary, particularly for museums with term-time closing days. One enjoyable Leeds outing is enough to turn an interrupted cricket day into a worthwhile part of the trip.
Yorkshire offers registration for 2027 international hospitality. If your group wants a hosted Women’s Ashes day, ask for the precise package and day before comparing it with ordinary tickets. Decide whether the main benefit for you is food, an indoor base or a particular viewing position, then request a written description of what is included.
For a family celebration or mixed-age group, settle junior admission and dietary needs at the same time as the seats. Ask how guests move between the room and viewing area and whether that route fits everyone’s mobility. Keep the package’s weather and early-finish terms with the confirmation so the organiser has one clear set of arrangements.
