North East Stand at Headingley: choosing a Test seat
The North East Stand combines an angled view of the wicket with Headingley’s alcohol-free Block R. For the women’s Ashes Test on 24–27 June 2027, compare its lower seating with the higher outlook upstairs. Block R is a particular part of North East Lower, so choose the block as carefully as the tier.
Best for: Families seeking Block R, or spectators choosing an elevated view from North East Upper.

Two heights beside the northern end
North East Lower places you close to the boundary at a corner of the field. The wicket lies at an angle ahead, giving you some of the bowling-line perspective while opening the near side of the outfield. For a child watching a first Test, following the nearest fielder between deliveries can make the scale of the ground easier to understand.
North East Upper raises that angle above the field. It is worth comparing if you like following a captain’s changes: a catcher moving out, a boundary rider coming in and the gaps available for a single. You trade closeness to the players for a broader picture.
Block R sits beneath the North East scoreboard in the lower section. For seats elsewhere in the stand, do not assume that a North East label includes the same alcohol-free arrangement as Block R.

An open stand through the Test day
Neither North East tier has roof shelter. Morning light is mixed around this corner, so an apparently shaded seat at the start should still be packed for a sunny day.
In the afternoon, sunlight faces the North East seating. Both the family block below and the elevated rows above need sun protection; choosing the upper tier does not buy cover. Keep a bottle within reach and plan a refill before returning for the next spell. The roofed parts of Howard offer a different comparison if shade is your priority.
Late in the day, lower sunshine can continue towards this northeastern corner. Sunglasses can make watching the distant action more comfortable, while a light layer helps if the wind picks up. The North East seating is exposed to showers as well, so pack a waterproof that can be used without taking up neighbouring seats.
Choosing the alcohol-free family block
Yorkshire identifies Block R as alcohol-free in its current ground seating guide. That is a seating rule for the named block, not a description of the entire North East Stand. For the 2027 women’s Test, look for Block R in the match’s seat selection and confirm the category before buying for a family group.
North East Upper suits a group that values the view across the field and is comfortable with its height and stairs. North East Lower keeps the action nearer eye level. Let those practical differences guide your choice for the women’s Ashes; neither a tier name nor a previous men’s crowd establishes how lively your particular day will be.

Getting to your North East row
North East Lower includes designated accessible viewing, with a step-free front row recorded in Block P. That provision is separate from Block R’s alcohol-free identity. If you need both accessible seating and a family arrangement, explain both requirements to Yorkshire before selecting tickets, including whether companions need to sit immediately beside you.
The upper tier is reached by steps and has no designated wheelchair spaces in its access guide. Ordinary lower-tier rows also involve steps, so a North East Lower ticket by itself does not establish a level route. Give the ticket team the actual row you are considering if climbing is likely to affect your enjoyment.
The adapted toilet is on the concourse behind North East Lower and uses RADAR access. On arrival, ask a steward for the route from your block and locate your return entrance.
A bar is behind the North East Stand, outside the alcohol-free seating. Use the concourse for a drink where permitted and keep alcohol out of Block R. Bring children back to their allocated row between overs, leaving enough time for the stairs if your booking is in North East Upper.
Selecting North East tickets
For the women’s Ashes on 24–27 June 2027, select North East Lower or Upper in Yorkshire’s booking system and compare the price attached to the actual block. If alcohol-free seating is the purpose of the visit, choose Block R first and then find a group of rows that works. The published priority launch price was a ground-wide starting offer, not a North East tariff.
