The Tests
Kensington Oval puts a Barbados cricket holiday within reach of Bridgetown, the south coast and the west coast. Its next Test has no confirmed date in the current venue listings. England Women’s published programme includes a West Indies tour with one Test in April 2027, but Barbados has not been named as its venue. Wait for the ground allocation before turning that tour window into a Kensington booking.

West Indies home internationals move between islands. Start with Cricket West Indies’ fixture list, select the Test format and match the venue to Kensington Oval. Use the ECB’s England schedule alongside it when following an England side.
Kensington’s cricket story stretches back to 1882, when Pickwick Cricket Club began developing the ground. The statue of Sir Garfield Sobers by the entrance and the names around the bowl introduce Barbadian cricket history. Give yourself time to take in those details before finding your seat.
For a first Kensington visit, two consecutive days let you follow partnerships and bowling spells while keeping time for the beach. Arrive in Barbados before your first matchday so the airport transfer and hotel check-in are behind you.
Opening day brings the toss and first look at the surface. Middle days let you join a developing contest. The final scheduled day may offer a close finish or disappear when the match ends early; keep Carlisle Bay or Bridgetown in mind for that possibility.
If travelling with someone who follows less cricket, agree which Kensington days you will share. Choose a shaded position and a manageable journey, and keep booked boat trips on a separate day.

Next Test prices and junior categories: TBC. Prices in Barbados dollars (BBD$) unless the official seller explicitly labels another currency.
Start a Kensington Test booking with Cricket West Indies’ ticket page. The event listing should identify the opponent, format, dates and authorised seller. Compare the stand, level and row alongside the price, and save the confirmation and entry instructions offline.
Check whether the offer covers one day or several, whether a numbered seat is allocated, and what a child or companion needs for admission. Settle the stand choice before group members buy separately. Budget for the full booking total and transport to Fontabelle each day.
For a party area, ask about inclusions and individual seating. For a conventional stand, compare the level and roof coverage. Arrange wheelchair viewing or a companion with the venue before selecting a public seat.
The Greenidge & Haynes, Hall & Griffith and Hewitt & Inniss stands carry the names of Barbadian cricketers. The Three Ws, also written 3Ws, honours Sir Frank Worrell, Sir Everton Weekes and Sir Clyde Walcott together. These are the three names behind one stand: look for 3Ws on the event map when comparing a ticket with a description of Worrell, Weekes or Walcott.
Higher seating helps you follow the field and a batter’s placement; lower rows bring you closer to the movement and sound of play. Compare the exact block with the shared plan below, then check the seller’s current seating map.
Kensington has also used party areas, shown on the ICC’s 2024 map. Their layout and inclusions belong to the individual event. If you want music and a social day, look for that offer when the next Test goes on sale. If your priority is following each ball, choose an allocated stand position and discuss likely noise with the ticket office before buying.
Barbados lies in the northern tropics. The sun’s midday position changes with the season, so a winter shade description should not decide a summer seat. Eastern seating can face afternoon light from the west; on the western side that light comes from behind. Roof depth and row position still matter. For a whole Test day, ask specifically about your row through the afternoon.
Barbados: the midday sun can lie north or south seasonally; afternoon light comes from the west. Approximate stand positions and pitch axis; front rows catch more sun. Roof and row affect shade.
Worrell, Weekes and Walcott Stand (3Ws)
The northern stand gives an end-on view from the Joel Garner End. Compare the public tier with separately sold suites; a stand name alone does not specify access.
Covered: Substantial canopy over upper seating; lower front rows remain exposed
Morning: North-end seats face south; morning light arrives across the eastern side
Afternoon: Roof depth helps upper seats; low afternoon sun and the season still affect exposed rows
Hall and Griffith Stand
Northwestern seating offers an angled view of the pitch. The 2024 map separates upper seating and hospitality; use the Test sale to identify the public option.
Covered: Roof over part of the stand; confirm whether your row lies beneath it
Morning: Southeast-facing open seats can receive morning light
Afternoon: The western sun moves behind this side; roof and row determine the useful shade
Greenidge and Haynes Stand
This western stand gives a side-on view across the square. Choose height as well as stand: an upper seat makes field changes easier to follow, while front rows bring the boundary closer.
Covered: Long roofed western structure, with exposed lower/front seating
Morning: East-facing open rows look towards morning sunshine
Afternoon: The sun moves behind the western structure; deeper roofed rows are the stronger shade choice
Hewitt and Inniss Stand
Southwestern seating looks diagonally across the pitch towards the opposite end. Confirm the level and public entrance on the event ticket rather than carrying forward a past tournament category.
Covered: Roofed sections with front rows outside the canopy
Morning: Northeast-facing exposed rows can receive early direct sun
Afternoon: Western light moves behind this sector; the exact row and roof edge still matter
Grandstand and Party Stand area
The 2024 map places the Grandstand outside the eastern Party Stand area. These event layouts may change for the next Test; check which stands and seating are offered.
Covered: Eastern event layout varies; do not assume overhead cover
Morning: Morning sun begins behind this side, but open seating still needs protection
Afternoon: West-facing positions can receive direct afternoon sunshine
Before leaving — Read the day’s entry instructions and arrange the return journey.
At Fontabelle — Allow time to reach the gate printed on your ticket.
During play — Keep water and sun protection within reach.
After the last session — Meet at the agreed pickup point before heading along the coast.
Pack for a long day in Bridgetown with a sunhat, sunscreen and a light layer for a shower. Keep the bag small enough to manage comfortably at your Kensington seat, with your ticket and payment method easy to reach. Ask about the match’s bottle and food rules before setting off from the hotel, particularly if children or dietary requirements make those items important.
Kensington’s published prohibited-items list includes flag poles, compressed-air horns and cans or tins other than sunscreen or insect repellent. Its A–Z guide prohibits bringing alcohol into the venue. Leave bulky beach equipment at your accommodation and carry only what you need for the cricket. If you have medication or essential equipment, agree its admission with the venue in advance.
The Barmy Army’s own Barbados account records visits for the 2022 Test series and the 2023 white-ball tour. That continuing connection helps explain why England supporters associate Kensington with a cricket holiday. Its description of a brass band and trumpet comes from the December 2023 white-ball matches; the entertainment and crowd arrangements for a future Test belong to that event.
At the first interval, locate the facilities nearest your section and agree a named stand or entrance as your group’s meeting point. Enjoy the exchange between visiting followers and West Indies supporters while keeping aisles and sightlines clear.
Kensington Oval is in Fontabelle, north of central Bridgetown. Compare the complete walk from a city hotel to your entrance with a taxi journey. Try the walk on a free day if you intend to repeat it with a bag in the heat.
For west-coast accommodation, use the Transport Board planner to identify services into Bridgetown and the appropriate stop or terminal. Princess Alice is a useful named terminal to check when planning the final approach to Fontabelle. Confirm both directions: the stop you use after cricket and the last convenient departure deserve as much attention as the morning ride.
From St Lawrence Gap and the south coast, plan the Bridgetown connection and final walk or taxi. Ask your accommodation for the nearest recognised stop and compare the route with the official timetable. Keep the hotel address in writing for the return.
For a pre-arranged taxi, agree the fare currency, outward collection and a specific return meeting point. Share the details with everyone using the car. Drivers should follow the event’s parking instructions and allow for the approach through Bridgetown.
Princess Alice Terminal — Check the route and final Fontabelle approach with the Transport Board planner.
South-coast accommodation — Plan the Bridgetown connection and return stop before matchday.
British Airways operates direct London–Barbados flights and has announced a Gatwick service from 25 October 2026 alongside Heathrow departures. Compare the airports and travel dates on the airline’s live timetable. Allow a full arrival day before the Kensington ticket you most want to use, and arrange the transfer from Grantley Adams International Airport to the correct coast.
For visitors travelling on a full British citizen passport, the FCDO says a tourist visa is not required. Barbados Immigration requires a passport valid for the stay, a return ticket, the intended address and evidence of support. Complete its online Immigration and Customs Form within the 72 hours before arrival and save the receipts. These requirements were checked on 12 October 2026; use the linked government pages for your own journey.
Barbados uses Atlantic Standard Time, UTC−4, throughout the year. It is four hours behind the UK during GMT and five hours behind during BST. Keep the local date and time on transport bookings. The date of the next Kensington Test will determine the UK first-ball conversion; the ground’s playing hours should drive your breakfast and departure from the hotel.
Regional rainfall records show a drier February–April period and a wetter late summer. Pack for sun and showers, with shade part of your Kensington seat choice. If combining Barbados with another island, check that country’s entry rules before booking the connection.
St Lawrence Gap suits a holiday that gives evenings and beach time a prominent place. You can return from Kensington, change, and choose dinner around the Gap. Factor the daily journey to Bridgetown into the room price, and ask about the room’s position if you want an early night before another morning at the cricket.
The west coast offers another way to combine the Test with the sea. Compare each property’s actual location and transport connection, since a general west-coast label covers different journeys to Fontabelle. A taxi shared by the group may make a more distant room practical, but include that cost for every cricket day before comparing it with a city base.
Bridgetown and its southern waterfront suit visitors who want to explore the capital between matches. Hilton Barbados Resort is at Needham’s Point, while South Gap Hotel is in St Lawrence Gap. These are distinct bases: compare the journey, room facilities and evening plans before choosing between them. Ask the hotel directly about any specific access requirement.
Stay for the Test
St Lawrence Gap
South-coast base for restaurants and beach time; plan the daily Bridgetown journey.
We may earn a commission if you book through this link.
Compare cancellation deadlines and the currency of the accommodation total. Check that breakfast fits your departure for Kensington and ask about bag storage if your return flight leaves after checkout.
Oistins Friday Fish Fry makes an appealing evening after Kensington if your Barbados stay includes a Friday. Visit Barbados describes the Bay Garden’s food and entertainment bringing residents and visitors together. Decide how you will travel there and back before leaving the hotel, particularly when some of the group are based on another coast.
St Lawrence Gap gives you a different sort of evening, with restaurants and bars concentrated around the south-coast strip. It is an easy place to make the next meal the main plan after a full day watching a Test. Pick a meeting point before the group separates, and leave the more elaborate dinner booking for an evening when the cricket cannot run into it.
Carlisle Bay provides a beach option close to Bridgetown for a day away from Kensington. Leave enough unplanned time to enjoy it, especially if you have already committed several days to cricket.
Harrison’s Cave is an inland alternative. Chukka operates its Eco-Adventure Park, including a tram tour through the cave. Compare the ticket’s activities and transport arrangements carefully: a cave visit and a longer adventure package make different demands on your day. Reserve a day outside the cricket booking so you can enjoy the outing without watching the time for the next session.
A catamaran trip offers another view of the Barbados coast. Visit Barbados lists operators including Tiami, based at the Shallow Draught in Bridgetown. Check the departure point, hotel collection, swimming arrangements and return time with the operator before booking. If access or boarding is a concern, discuss the particular boat as part of that enquiry.
Kensington offers hospitality spaces in the Three Ws and its grandstand facilities. Start with the venue or official match seller. Ask for the viewing position as well as the room description when choosing where to spend a full Test day.
Confirm the hours, food and drink inclusions, outdoor seating and the arrangements for leaving and returning to the lounge. For a group, put the answers beside the total price per person so everybody is choosing the same experience. If anyone needs a step-free route or companion seating, settle that with the event team before payment.
The ICC’s 2024 brochure helps identify Kensington’s stand names, but its hospitality offers belong to that tournament. Use the next Test’s own offer for prices and inclusions.
A dated next Test is TBC. England Women’s programme includes a West Indies Test in April 2027, but Kensington Oval has not been named as the venue.
Are Worrell, Weekes and Walcott separate stands?
The current venue describes one Three Ws, or 3Ws, Stand honouring Sir Frank Worrell, Sir Everton Weekes and Sir Clyde Walcott.
Can I travel from St Lawrence Gap to the ground?
Yes. Plan a bus journey into Bridgetown and the final Fontabelle approach, or arrange a taxi with a specific return pickup point.
Do British visitors need a Barbados visa?
For a tourist visit on a full British citizen passport, the FCDO says no visa is required. Follow Barbados Immigration’s document and online arrival-form requirements.
How far behind the UK is Barbados?
Barbados is four hours behind GMT and five hours behind BST. It stays on UTC−4 all year.
