Edgbaston brings the third men’s Ashes Test to Birmingham from 8–12 July 2027. Make a weekend of the cricket, find your place between the Hollies and the bowler’s-arm stands, then head into the city for a canalside evening.
Edgbaston at a glance
| Test | Dates | First ball / gates |
|---|---|---|
| England men v Australia | 8–12 July 2027 | 11:00 / TBC |
Thursday 8 July opens the third Test of the 2027 men’s Ashes. The weekend falls in the middle of the match: Saturday is Day 3 and Sunday Day 4, with Monday 12 July reserved for the fifth day. The first ball is scheduled for 11:00. Two Tests precede Birmingham, so arrive knowing the series position as well as the day’s score.

England’s two-run victory here in 2005 remains a wonderful reason to enjoy every ball of a close finish. The ECB’s Ashes archive also recalls an eight-wicket England win in 2015, a nine-wicket win in 1997 and the 29-run victory in 1981. Those matches give Edgbaston a rich Ashes story; the next chapter starts with a fresh scorecard.
An Edgbaston visit works well as a Birmingham break with cricket at its centre. Put your match ticket first, then choose a hotel that makes the evening and the next morning manageable. A city-centre room suits a train arrival; an Edgbaston address can make more sense if your plans also include the university district and Bournville.
| Day | What you’re likely to see | Adult price (Ashes) | Chance match is already over | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 · Thu 8 Jul | Opening spells and a fresh match | £115–£180 | None before it starts | The opening-day occasion |
| Day 2 · Fri 9 Jul | First innings developing | £115–£180 | Possible | A weekday cricket break |
| Day 3 · Sat 10 Jul | Middle-match tactics | £115–£180 | Possible | A Birmingham weekend |
| Day 4 · Sun 11 Jul | Possible chase or result | £115–£180 | Higher than earlier days | A potentially decisive Sunday |
| Day 5 · Mon 12 Jul | Closing passage or no play | £25 | Highest of these options | Flexible local or overnight visitors |
Choose Thursday for the opening ceremony of a new match and the first look at how England and Australia respond to the pitch. Friday lets you follow the opening day’s story without using the weekend. Saturday brings the third day to a convenient city-break slot: arrive on Friday evening, enjoy the cricket and leave room for Birmingham on Sunday.
Sunday may bring a chase, a declaration or a long contest still unfolding. Monday suits visitors who can change their plans at short notice. Keep Cadbury World or a city walk in mind if the match has finished, and settle your hotel cancellation arrangements before committing to the extra night.

Warwickshire announced on 7 October 2026 that the first four days had sold out. Any returns will be offered first to club members and unsuccessful ballot entrants. Keep your Edgbaston account details current so a short purchase window reaches you. If you already have tickets, share the exact date, stand and seat numbers with your group before anyone books transport.
The published stand tariff puts ordinary Days 1–4 seats at £115–£180. Hollies is £165, West Upper and West Lower £145, and Dennis Amiss £115–£145. City End Social is a separate GA+ product at £250. Under-16 tickets are £35, and the booking fee is £2.50 per ticket. Compare the total cost for your party, including the train and room, before accepting a return.
The Eric Hollies Stand is Edgbaston’s loud, sociable side-on choice. The club recommends it particularly for adult groups and fancy dress. If you want to join the songs and costumes, choose it deliberately; if someone in your party needs a calmer setting, discuss a different stand before buying seats together.
Dennis Amiss opens in 2027, with alcohol-free seating in blocks 1–3. South Lower gives a ground-level view along the bowling line; the northern end offers the opposite perspective. Decide whether you enjoy judging line and length from behind the bowler or following the field from a side-on seat.
Hollies faces the afternoon sun across the square. South-side cover can be useful when shade matters, while the exposed fronts of stands still need a hat and sunscreen. Read the individual stand cards and compare your block, row and roof position. For the new Dennis Amiss stand, take your final seating details from the 2027 ticket map.

Pack a picnic and non-alcoholic drinks for Edgbaston; outside alcohol and glass are prohibited. A compact bag makes the queue, seat and concourse easier to manage. Keep your ticket accessible and put sunscreen, a waterproof and any essential medication where you can reach them without emptying the bag beneath your seat.
Fancy dress in Hollies still needs to leave neighbouring spectators a clear view. Offensive or racist clothing, slogans and behaviour are prohibited, and stewards can remove people who breach the ground rules. Leave the large prop at home if it blocks an aisle or somebody’s view. Under-14s must attend with an adult aged at least 18.
Use the early part of your visit to locate your block, toilets and food options. Decide where the group will meet after play: “outside Edgbaston” is a broad instruction when people emerge from different stands. A specific gate and a message before leaving your seats will make the return to Birmingham much smoother.

Birmingham New Street is the main rail gateway. Edgbaston’s walking guide allows about 40 minutes from the station; add time for crossings, a food stop and the final entry queue. Save a pedestrian route to the entrance on your ticket before leaving the concourse. The walk is part of the day’s effort, especially if you plan to do it again after the last session.
The 501 shuttle runs at selected major fixtures from Smallbrook Queensway, near New Street, to Priory Road. Return boarding is by the Indoor School. The current travel page lists £6 adult and £4.50 child day passes. Local services 45 and 47 also serve Pershore Road near the ground. Keep the return boarding point separate from the stop where you arrived.
Five Ways is an alternative rail arrival on Islington Row, useful when staying on the western side of Birmingham. Map its onward route to Edgbaston before choosing it over New Street. Parking for major matches is booked ahead, and nearby road closures can alter a taxi approach. Use your parking confirmation’s entrance instructions for the Ashes day.

Find a parking space →Choose the city centre if your priority is an easy train arrival and a wide choice of dinners after stumps. Edgbaston works for visitors combining cricket with the university side of the city. The Jewellery Quarter puts independent shops and its own evening scene into the trip, with a separate journey across to the ground each morning.

For consecutive Test days, compare breakfast hours, luggage storage and the cost of returning after dinner. Ask your hotel about the actual room you are booking if steps, shower design or a quiet location matter. Give yourself enough time to collect bags on the final day before your train; a close finish is a poor moment to be watching the clock.
Brindleyplace is an easy shortlist for a group that has spent the day discussing where to eat. Its restaurant directory includes Bank, Piccolino, Rudy’s and Wagamama, so you can agree a budget and cuisine before leaving Edgbaston. A meal by the canal gives the evening a different pace after hours of following the scoreboard.
The Mailbox offers another canalside dining base, alongside its shops and cinema. Choose an area near your hotel and leave the restaurant booking late enough for the return journey. If Sunday’s match is building towards a finish, tell the restaurant about any change before the final over becomes more absorbing than your phone.
For a Jewellery Quarter stay, explore its own food and drink listings and keep the evening local. A short plan agreed at breakfast saves five people trying to choose a venue while queuing for the shuttle. Take the opportunity to talk through the day’s turning points once you are comfortably away from the ground.
Cadbury World makes a full non-cricket outing in Bournville. The Cross-City railway connects New Street with Bournville station, and the attraction gives a 15-minute signed walk from there. Book a timed visit that leaves space for the journey, especially with children who have already managed a long day at Edgbaston.
For a flexible Birmingham day, follow the canals around Gas Street Basin or explore the Jewellery Quarter’s heritage trail and independent shops. Keep a waterside walk short if you have another full Test day ahead. The city’s canal network mixes working boats, walkers and cyclists, so leave passing space on the towpath.
If you would like to look behind the scenes at Edgbaston, ask the club about a tour on your free date. A spare day in the itinerary also gives you room to enjoy Birmingham if the Test finishes early. Put the attraction you most want to see on a separate day so neither the cricket nor the city becomes rushed.
Keith Prowse is Edgbaston’s official hospitality provider and has an Ashes booking route for 8–12 July. Ask for the day, viewing position, food and drink inclusions, dress requirements and total price in one proposal. If you are organising a mixed group, settle access and dietary arrangements before collecting everyone’s payment.
Compare the seat as carefully as the dining room: you will spend much of a Test watching from that position. Edgbaston’s refund terms separate the match-ticket value from the hospitality element, with suites remaining available during interruptions. Read the terms attached to your package and keep the confirmation with your tickets.
England play Australia from Thursday 8 to Monday 12 July, with an 11:00 scheduled start. Saturday is Day 3 and Sunday Day 4.
Days 1–4 sold out on 7 October 2026. The club will give members and unsuccessful ballot entrants first access to any returns.
The Days 1–4 ordinary adult tariff is £115–£180, with under-16 tickets £35. Day 5 is £25 adult and £5 under 16. Add the £2.50 booking fee per ticket.
The club recommends Eric Hollies for adult groups and fancy dress. Keep costumes considerate, leave views clear and follow the ground’s behaviour rules.
Blocks 1–3 in the Dennis Amiss Stand are alcohol-free. The new stand opens in 2027.
You may bring food and non-alcoholic drinks within Edgbaston’s ground rules. Outside alcohol and glass are prohibited.
Allow about 40 minutes to walk. The 501 shuttle serves selected major fixtures from Smallbrook Queensway, close to the station.
On Days 1–4, 0–15 overs brings a full match-ticket refund and 15.1–30 overs a half refund. The scheme excludes Day 5.
Arrange your Edgbaston seat, companion and arrival route together. The access guide covers wheelchair viewing, the Hollies-side Changing Places facility, sensory support and Birmingham rail connections.
